Historical Background

The Jagdtiger (Sd.Kfz. 186) was the heaviest armored fighting vehicle to enter operational service during World War II. Developed by Germany in 1944, it was based on the Tiger II chassis and armed with the formidable 128 mm PaK 44 L/55 anti-tank gun, capable of destroying virtually any Allied tank at extreme ranges.

Protected by frontal armor up to 250 mm thick, the Jagdtiger was nearly impervious to enemy anti-tank weapons from the front. However, its enormous weight of over 70 tonnes resulted in mechanical reliability issues and limited mobility, making it difficult to deploy effectively on the battlefield.

Only around 70 to 80 Jagdtigers were completed before the end of the war. Despite their limited numbers, these vehicles became legendary for their immense firepower and remain among the most fascinating armored vehicles ever produced. Today, surviving Jagdtigers are preserved in museums around the world and continue to captivate military historians and armored vehicle enthusiasts.
