About this set
USS Montana at 1:300 scale is a 2,956-piece dream fleet project—the American super-battleship class that never sailed. Twelve 16-inch turrets and a hull longer than Iowa dominate the build, rewarding naval enthusiasts aged 14+ with a centrepiece rivalling Yamato kits. Compatible ABS bricks stack into clean deck lines and superstructure tiers ideal for display cases. Eco-friendly material keeps weight reasonable for shelving. This is the definitive ‘paper battleship’ for brick collectors who want USN what-if history beside realised Iowa or North Carolina models.
Historical background
Designed to counter Yamato, the Montana class would have carried twelve 16-inch guns and thicker armour than Iowa, but the US Navy cancelled all five hulls in 1943 to prioritise carriers and landing craft. The decision cemented carrier aviation as king of Pacific strategy. Montana exists today only in blueprints and gaming—making brick versions the closest most modellers get to commissioning the class. Building it invites reflection on industrial choices that ended the battleship era.
