Historical background
After Kursk, surviving Ferdinands received hull machine guns, Zimmerit, and cupolas during rebuilds at Nibelungenwerk, earning the Elefant name. They fought in Italy and the East with improved close defence but remained overweight and hard to recover. Only two original hulls survive in museums today.
