Historical background
Roughly 105 Panzer IV chassis were converted into Wirbelwind self-propelled AA guns in 1944, nicknamed ‘Whirlwind’ for their furious rate of fire against Il-2s and fighter-bombers. The open turret exposed crews but restored mobility to Luftwaffe ground defence as air superiority collapsed. Wirbelwinds escorted Tiger columns and supply trains—roles brick builders can stage beside tank destroyers to show combined-arms desperation late in the war.
